I'd like to send a gluten free care package to a friend, preferably without resorting to the large retailers known to be engaging in unsafe labor practices at this time. Would love to support a small business.
What are good places to order a nice selection of gluten free goodies (cookies, crackers, other ready to eat/shelf stable items only-- friend is not able to prepare foods). Other dietary restrictions are no caffeine (including chocolate, alas) and no artificial sweeteners.
Schaer website is unfortunately broken-- I can't check out! Ideas?

Depending on where in the US your friend is, you can check out this bakery: https://kkbakeshop.com/ Lockport, NY is north of Buffalo, NY. So this is Eastern US.

The entire operation is GF and while I have not eaten there, my niece has and loves their food. Anyone I know who has been there loves the place. The web site has online ordering, you can check it out.

They're good people and will let you know what they can and cannot do.

Try https://www.naturalcandystore.com/category/gluten-free-candy ! You can get really specific about dietary restrictions there. And https://www.vitacost.com/gluten-free-shopping has a lot of GF shelf-stable snacks.

If your friend can heat up water or soup, https://www.rightfoods.com/ is the place to go for GF cup-of-noodle and similar. Their tomato soup is the best I've ever had.

Well, can't really speak to unsafe work practices but I agree that Vitacost has done well for me. I've been shopping there for several years. They were an independent retailer but got bought up by Kroger. They STILL do an excellent job for my gluten-free needs (although rice has been hard to order during the Covid-19 situation).

Thank you SO much for this rec! I took a look, and some of their prices are amazing! Some are the same as in-store (or higher, in some cases), but this allowed me to buy snack foods at a price where I can justify "splurging"/trying something new. (and some are products we can't find in stores near us, or only at Whole Foods, which we're trying to avoid as much as possible). So huge huge thank yous!!
