Our prompt for August is GF products! Tell us all about your favorites, or tell us about something you tried recently that turned out not to be a favorite. It's all good. (Unless it isn't.)
To fill this prompt, you can:
- Slide into the comments of this post and share a link to a product and why you like it (or don't!).
- Post a product review to the comm.
- Write up a recipe that uses a favorite GF product and post it to the comm.
- Try someone's recipe and reply to their post (or comment) with any changes you made and how it turned out.
Now for the small print only it's in regular print for accessibility reasons: Monthly prompts are only for inspiration and not a requirement. You can post anything you like to the comm whenever you like as long as it meets the community guidelines.
Here's what's going on in the comments:
Nairn's Original Oat Grahams
Date: 2023-08-01 03:57 pm (UTC)After a few years of not being able to find these in the stores, Nairn's original Oat Grahams have returned to me. I couldn't remember if I liked the original or the stem ginger (they also come in chocolate chip), so I went with the original, which look super boring on their face:
But I got them home and opened up one of the 4 adorable individually wrapped packages of 4 cookies (I'd prefer to eat 2-3 in a sitting, so I wish they were less adorably proportioned, but it does keep them fresh) and immediately remembered why I liked them so much. They taste very much like graham crackers in that they're not too sweet, the flavor of the grain comes through, and they have a crisp bite and a rustic nubbly texture. Simple, but very delicious.

Date: 2023-08-01 10:15 pm (UTC)another fave Nairn's product I absolutely love are the flatbreads, which actually look and taste a lot like proper Scandinavian knækbrød! the rosemary and sea salt is my go-to if I'm not baking my own.
I haven't had cause to make no-bake cheesecake since I got here, but I've wondered if the plain oat biscuit breaks would be a good alternative to digestive biscuits...one way to find out...eventually...

As for the oat biscuits, after biting into one again, my first thought was that they'd make an excellent (if expensive) graham cracker crust, or could even be used in these SunButter S'mores Cookie Bars.

Date: 2023-08-15 06:23 pm (UTC)P.S. I have tried the stem ginger biscuits and they are spicy and good, and the little bits of candied ginger are chewy and fun.

Date: 2023-08-02 12:01 pm (UTC)Arnott's brought out gf Scotch Finger Biscuits a few years ago, and while they aren't quite right, they are such a wonderful bit of my childhood to have back. I do, however, usually buy the knock-off brand, because I can't pick the difference.
No direct link, because cannot find one that works, but they are somewhere down the Arnott's gluten free range.
