runpunkrun: silverware laid out on a cloth napkin (gather yon utensils)

This week's recipe prompt is snacks, y'all.

We're looking for stuff you can put in your mouth between meals, or instead of meals; we don't judge. We're looking for foods that travel well, have a long shelf life, can be eaten straight out of the bag, box, jar, or fridge; we're talking jerky, crackers, nuts, chips, dips, beans, fruit, granola, kelp, kale, candy, sweet or salty, sweet and salty—it's all good. If you snack on it, we want it.

To fill this prompt, you can:

  1. Write up a favorite snack recipe and post it to the comm.
  2. Pop into the comments of this post with a link to a recipe and what you like about it.
  3. Start a snack-related discussion in the comments of this post or join a conversation already in progress.
  4. Try someone's snack recipe and reply to their post (or comment) with any substitutions or changes you made and how it turned out.

If you like deadlines, you have one week to fill this prompt! During this time, you can continue to post to the comm even if it isn't snack related. These prompts are just in case you need a little inspiration.

If you don't like deadlines, there's no deadline, and you can participate whenever you want.

Now, did I get through this whole post without accidentally typing snake at any point? Absolutely not. But did I catch all the snakes before I hit post? Let's hope so.

My favorite snack is popcorn, which I enjoy combining with various spice blends (Old Bay, Za'atar, or Spice and Tea Exchange's popcorn blend). Note that I've occasionally seen big bags of Za'atar at middle eastern groceries use wheat as a filler so check ingredient lists for Unexpected Gluten.

For a more substantial snack or even a meal, this is one that's worked well in my house, with seasonings adjusted to taste. https://www.thekitchn.com/easy-breakfast-recipe-kale-and-goat-cheese-frittata-cups-166901
Edible cold or hot, enjoyed by toddlers, busy parents, and others who may want or need to eat one handed while on the go.

Thank you for this!!! My wife and I love corn nuts but they're so expensive. I'll definitely try making them! Oh, and sumac is delicious--I bought a giant tub of it from a restaurant store (seriously, it's like a gallon and a half!) and I estimate I'll go through it in about two years. It would be perfect on corn nuts, and I might never have thought of it!
