Our prompt for June is favorites! Could be a favorite cookbook, frozen dinner, or lip balm. As long as it's gluten free it qualifies.

To fill this prompt, you can:

1. Slide into the comments of this post and share a link to a recipe, product, or resource and why you like it.
2. Write up a favorite recipe and post it to the comm.
3. Post a review of a related product or cookbook to the comm.
4. Try someone's recipe and reply to their post (or comment) with any changes you made and how it turned out.

My favorite from-scratch: Gluten-Free Chocolate Cake, a recipe I got from runpunkrun, though I can't remember where and I don't see it posted here. Uses GF flour; it and the accompanying frosting recipe can be adapted in a number of ways, including dairy-free and vegan, and different presentations, including cupcakes.

I think we connected over that chocolate cake on Mastodon, and neither of us has managed to share our thoughts with the comm. :D

But also: seconded. That chocolate cake is a definite favorite. Super easy to put together, versatile, and tasty. I make it dairy free, but I'm still experimenting to find my favorite frosting for it.

It's now the official cake for my nieces' birthdays, which is the highest possible compliment. Once they randomly asked to bake it with me for no occasion, which was not messy, not AT ALL, hahaha.

This is my official birthday cake, too. Though this year I went with a vanilla cake with strawberry (vegan) buttercream, and now I'm missing my chocolate cake, so, I'll just put that on my to bake list.

Strawberry buttercream sounds AMAZING! Do you do it off a recipe?

I did follow a recipe, but the basic idea is you take some freeze dried strawberries, blast them in the food processor with part of the powdered sugar until everything's pink and powdery, sift it to get out any gritty bits, then make your buttercream as usual. I can type up the recipe I used if you're interested. I'm going to try freeze dried raspberries next time.
