Product review - Love more Custard Creams
Today, we wandered into a random supermarket in Dublin (I remember it said 'Good Food Market' on the branding, if that helps anyone identify it). After some wandering, we found their gluten free 'section', which seemed to be scattered across random shelves in one aisle.
In the bikkies section, I found custard creams. Now, custard creams are one of the options that one gets in what I think of as one of the family tradition bikkie selections - the Arnotts Family Selection (title may be different; there is a plain and a creams variation). I have not seen a GF version in Aus, which means it is ~15 years since I'm likely to have eaten one. They are advertised as 'crunchy biscuits with a vanilla flavour filling'.
Taste wise and texture wise they are about perfect, when held up to the rose coloured memories. They are beautifully short biscuits, the amount of filling nicely balances the biscuits. Size wise they are a bit smaller than I was expecting (it is possible that the regular ones are also smaller than my memory), and I was on my third one before I realised. I think there are nine in the packet, so enough for a small group of friends to share.
Brand is 'love more' with the tag line 'fabulous free from foods'. Information on the side says 'baked in a dedicated free from bakery', with an address in Wales. Ingredients lists are translated into ES, SV, NO, and FI, which I'm interpreting as Spain, Sweden maybe Switzerland?, Norway, Finland, so presumably can be found in those countries as well as Ireland and the UK.
Allergen advice lists them as 'gluten free, wheat free, and milk free' and 'suitable for vegans'. They do not contain oats, soy, or umm, a third thing I remember noticing and have forgotten. They do contain potato, but I'm pretending to be okay with that.
Overall: highly recommended,

May you find something that satisfies the custard cream desire in a way that suits your body.

I haven't come across this brand in the UK so it may be Ireland only. I'll keep a look out next time I go grocery shopping...I've only seen Schär GF custard creams around here.

Thank you for that correction; I'll update the post. I was like 'well, Sweden is right there with Norway and Finland'. Maybe Switzerland?
Do you have opinions on the Schär ones? I tend to be disappointed with the offerings from them in Australia, but that might be issues with what makes it that far, and how stale it is.

I don’t think I’ve tried the Schär custard creams 🤔 I have to admit I was never a fan of them back when I could still eat gluten, so I don’t miss them. When I was a kid you could get them in a chocolate variant which I really liked, but whenever I bring that up people think I’m crazy/talking about bourbons. Anyway, the gf biscuit selection in general is pretty poor so I’d be willing to try custard creams of any brand just to have a sweet biscuit I can eat... GF hobnobs are my go-to usually. I find Schär in general is hit or miss with me, some of their products are blergh (their gf frozen pizza is Not Good imo and I’m so upset that Waitrose is now carrying Schär frozen pizza instead of Dr. Oetker/Ristorante (the superior brand of frozen gf pizza in the UK) because now I have no excuse to go to Waitrose anymore. I also don’t like their gf pizza base so I don’t use it if I want to shortcut a pizza at home, and when I find out a restaurant is using that for their gf pizza offerings I don’t eat there) and others are very good. I like their Melto, it doesn’t taste the exact same as a Kinder Bueno but it’s close enough and the biscuit and chocolate layer is thicker, which I like. Of their biscuits I like their version of the Prince LU biscuit, called something like Max Sorrisi? Tastes exactly right.

I would not have worked out the Switzerland / CH pairing. I'm sure there is a logic, I'm just not seeing it. And thank you for looking it up.
I don't think I've seen the Schär gf pizza. Our local supermarket used to carry the Dr Oetker brand, but I haven't seen it in some time. Fortunately, there is a fresh pizza brand that is very very good (although twice the price; slightly larger and many more toppings makes it worth it) so we usually get that. Also don't think I've seen any of those biscuit variations, but it might be that I've not looked for a while, and the available range has changed. The main Schär product I buy is Grissini, if I can't find the locally made GF ones.
